Course Overview
This online course consists of nine modules:
- Background to the Law and Courts
- Justices in the District Court
- Working in the Court
- Managing Proceedings and the List Court
- Disclosure, Adjournments and Bail
- Judge-alone Trials
- Evidence, Proof and Defences
- Decisions and Sentencing
- Common Offences
All the modules are self-directed study. It is important that you complete all the activities which include reading, answering written questions and completing the worksheets or interactivities. Study the material with the aim of understanding and retaining the information.
Your learning will consist of the modules and accompanying resources and discussions with your mentor as well as class discussions at the optional Zoom meetings. For guidance on successful study habits and techniques see the resources available on the Judicial Studies Course Students' page.
By the end of the course you should be competent and confident to sit in a real court under the mentorship of your court panel. While you study, keep this outcome in mind.
