Section One: Judicial Conduct

Introduction

The ethical standards required of the judiciary by the public are very high and understandably so. Those wielding power and authority over others must be - and be seen to be - living their lives unimpeachably.

Although your powers are restricted, the public make very little distinction between Judges and Justices, District Court and High Court and so on. You are seen as a member of the bench and in most circumstances are subject to the same ethical requirements of behaviour.

The Judicial Conduct Commissioner

The Judicial Conduct Commissioner does not have jurisdiction over Justices. It is nevertheless worthwhile learning about the process New Zealand Judges are subject to.
